Kokua, a community of friends

Aloha All,

Kokua Market is a cooperative. As a cooperative, we have over 3500 people in our community that have paid the $150 fee for a share. This fee can be paid all at once or in 15 installments of $10 a month, but anyone who has paid this fee owns a share in the cooperative and becomes an owner of Kokua. As an owner, you have many benefits that come with your share, some financial but others philosophical and political. There has been some confusion as to whether a member of the Kokua website's online community means that you are an owner of the cooperative. We greatly apologize for this confusion, but again, only those who have made the one-time purchase of a $150 share are "owners." To somewhat limit this confusion, we are in the process of changing the terminology on our website from an online "member" to "friend" of Kokua. We hope this does not cause further confusion, and allows us to continue to build this community of "friends" through our website. Kokua Market welcomes any of our online "friends" to come down to the store to become owners, but you certainly don't have to be an owner to shop at our store. We are open to all customers, so come check us out.
