Brining a Turkey?

I have brined my Thanksgiving turkeys several times in the past and have not felt that it added a great deal of moisture or crisped the skin all that much. So for the past 2 years, I've not brined…Continue

Kokua, a community of friends

Aloha All,Kokua Market is a cooperative. As a cooperative, we have over 3500 people in our community that have paid the $150 fee for a share. This fee can be paid all at once or in 15 installments of $10 a month, but anyone who has paid this fee owns a share in the cooperative and becomes an owner of Kokua. As an owner, you have many benefits that come with your share, some financial but others philosophical and political. There has been some confusion as to whether a member of the Kokua…See More

What I want from our coop
A community of individuals who are learning about healthy, sustainable living and who work together to build a better Hawaii. A store where I can buy good local and organic produce, along with other healthy items, and eat food made with loving care and attention that makes me feel better after eating it. I want to be part of a community that believes in an alternate model of business from the corporate model that is so prevalent around us. I want our coop to be a group of owners and staff that believe that our store can help make a difference in people's lives.
I can contribute the following skills/services/collaborations (i.e., graphic design; legal services; landscaping; owner coupons/discounts, etc.) to our co-op
I can and have volunteered to paint both the interior and exterior of the store. I am willing to move things or clean things if necessary. I can cut trees and plants if necessary. I can contribute my organizational skills to our board and committees.

Glad you can make it on 3/20. The VSH - Chef Paul Onishi free talk and cooking demo should be fun. Please check out the free literature table before the talk - lots of good info there too.

Brad,
Thanks for your contributions to the success of the Waianae farms tour event on 3/6/10. Jim and I had a great time. I am inspired by their achievements and vision and applaud Ma'o Organic Farm, Kahumana Farm and Cafe, and Ailani Gardens in their efforts to bring us fresh, local, organic food and make Oahu a better place to live. Thank you for the invitation to farm work day . I'll think about it, but if I work with greens, then that's what I want to eat, not some dead greasy cooked food. Sorry, no offense, that's what it tastes like to me.
