Kokua Market

The only natural foods cooperative in Hawai`i!

I had some nice conversations at our Owner Appreciation Event. One owner suggested that we arrange a farm tour as our next Kokua event. I thought that was a nice idea. Again, this would certainly be in step with our efforts to get our owners closer to local farms and see how our community is increasing food sustainability. We could maybe visit with 3-5 farms on a Saturday or Sunday morning. It would probably be in January. I talked with Abdul, our bulk manager, and we thought that going out to some Waianae farms would be a good start. If the tour went well, maybe we could organize another tour up to some North Shore farms, ranches, and dairies. We've already had an owner talk about renting a bus so that we could all go up together.

Anyone interested? Please share your thoughts and ideas.

Farm tours are just my speed. I would love to support local farms by visiting them and seeing firsthand what they are doing in sustainable agriculture and animal-rearing. Please count me in!
