Thank you for coming and letting others know about it too. So glad you liked the deli treats! So fun to have so many people together for such a great cause.

mahalo for the opportunity to watch Food Inc with other Kokua Market owners, Public Health students and professionals, concerned citizens and others doing good in our local food system. i enjoyed the teriyaki tofu musubi (at such a reasonable price) and complimentary date oat cake.

i would like to add that the Food, INC. book is a great resource guide too!

Oh, and you can't miss this: A blog written by Monsanto's PR guy comparing Food Inc to their company's practices in which they claim patenting genes is the same as copyright infringement! That's like equating a pen (invention) with a book (work of authorship), except their "pen" happens to be the essence of life.

Hi Kim, Thanks for pointing out all these fantastic movies for everyone in this community. Didn't realize Botany of Desire is now a film. Will have to check that out for sure. Flow is a fascinating movie, and the venue for that upcoming event is also great (Baby aWEARness). Hope people will see it as well as coming to the Food, Inc screening coming up soon.

So great to see this event happening. I loved this movie. Though it was somewhat depressing.

If you like this movie, you may also like:

The World According to Monsanto (downloadable here: http://underdogcinema.com/politics/the-world-according-to-monsanto/), The Future of Food, The Botany of Desire (both a book and a movie now, both good), and The Garden (documentary).

Food issues are tied to water issues. There are a number of good films about this. Flow: For Love of Water (which is being screened this Sunday w/ Q&A after w Kapua Sproat and Isaac Moriwake, local attorneys that specialize in water rights - email FlowScreening@gmail.com for info), A World Without Water (here: http://vimeo.com/1327353), The Water Front. There's also Thirst and Tapped which I haven't seen yet but have heard good things about.

Sorry you can't join us. Thanks for your offer regarding the bibliography. Want to add it as a blog post and then the web community could see it too? Thanks!

I think starting this with the Pollan book is an important place to start. I, unfortunately, will be out of state but would be happy to create a small bibliography on food, food processing, and global food issues that could be handed out at the meeting--if desirable. Deane
